I had an amazing experience yesterday at Hotlanta Yoga Studio. I’d never tried Thai Yoga Massage therapy but after purchasing a Groupon for a 90 minute session, I felt like it was worth a shot. Wow! Talk about being aware of all the energy in your body. This was not your cookie cutter massage therapy session. Forget the scented oils and lotion… No soothing music…. No wishing your massage therapist would quit rubbing your hand and get to your neck and shoulders already! This…this was a different experience all together.
I’ve practiced yoga and love my barre3 classes and found that my previous experiences allowed me to get deeper into the guided yoga massage. My massage therapist studied in Thailand and for 90 minutes, we went through a guided yoga flow while working on areas of muscle tension. As we both went through this experience together for the allotted 90 minutes, the only sounds were the lulling hustle and bustle of an active Old Fourth Ward Sunday afternoon, the sounds of the rain and thunderstorm as it approached and moved through and our breathing.
This was the PERFECT opportunity for me to find balance. It reminded me of one of my favorite Indira Gandhi quotes…
You must learn to be still in the midst of activity and to be vibrantly alive in repose.
Balance… the stillness in the midst of all that surrounded me both physically and in my thoughts but also allowing my breath to help me feel vibrantly alive in such a state of tranquility. Such a wonderful gift!
